RTI Mobile app for iPhone and iPad

Reflectance transformation imaging (RTI) is a powerful imaging technique used to capture, in detail, the surface characteristics of objects; this is achieved through the acquisition and accurate representation of the object’s three-dimensional reflectance properties. This process enables the viewer to see the object as though it were being illuminated by a raking light from every angle; thus it is an incredible research tool in conservation, art history, archaeology and related fields. RTI has been proven to be successful in capturing the unique surface qualities of a variety of materials, including inscriptions on stone, paintings, coins and textiles.

The RTI Mobile app has the ability to bring this technology into exhibition spaces as an interactive platform for visitors to engage with artifacts in a new way, as well as assist researchers and conservators. The RTI Mobile app features intuitive gesture controls and an easily customizable menu. Artifacts can be viewed using directional light or a specular filter to reveal subtle details, which would otherwise be very difficult to see.
